February 20-21, 2025

Rome (Italy),

Department of Economics, University of Roma Tre

Via Silvio d’Amico 77, 00145, Rome

Description

Welcome!

IAERE is glad to announce its Fourteenth Annual Conference, to be held at the University of Roma Tre on February 20-21, 2025.

The call for papers is now open and submissions on all relevant topics related to Environmental and Natural Resource Economics are warmly invited.

Call for Paper

As in previous editions, the 2025 IAERE Conference maintains a balanced interest on both theoretical and applied research, with a marked interest in policy implications.

Presentations both in English and in Italian will be possible, depending on the audience. Young researchers and PhD students who wish to attend are most welcome.

Submitted contributions are expected to be work in progress, at a reasonably advanced stage but still unpublished. Only .pdf files in English are accepted. All submissions will undergo the regular peer review process. Each author can submit a maximum of two co-authored works (and/or only one single-authored paper).

In any case, each conference participant can present only one paper. Notification of submission acceptance in oral or poster sessions is expected by December 10th, 2024.

Aim

In recent years, climate-related extreme events such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts have become increasingly frequent, necessitating timely and effective responses. Despite advancements in early warning systems, adaptation strategies, and post-disaster recovery measures, these extreme events have inflicted devastating impacts on societies, resulting in significant casualties, material deprivation, loss of productivity, and altered power dynamics.

The vulnerability to climate hazards is often exacerbated by weak recovery strategies and inadequate responses, which impede resilience and adaptation processes in turbulent environments. Examples include insufficient prevention measures, responses lacking coordination among various levels and stakeholders, opacity in resource allocation procedures, and a lack of accountability and civic engagement.

A comprehensive theoretical and empirical analysis of this issue is therefore essential to assist policymakers and practitioners in enhancing scholars’ understanding while supporting public administration preparedness to cope with such unpredictable events.

The aim of the Summer School is to explore the economic analysis of risk assessment and warning systems, discuss planning and recovery strategies to mitigate, prepare for, and respond to natural hazards, and provide an in-depth inquiry into successful adaptation strategies for reducing the negative impacts of climate-related extreme events.

Target

Graduate students, PhD candidates, and working professionals from any university, research institute, or other organization (private companies, government agencies, NGOs) with an interest in environmental issues and ability to read and write fluently in English. Advanced undergraduates will also be considerede considered.
